Training
Train with the I-ON,
and knock the ball out of the park.
Start training with the I-ON Eye Trainer and you’ll immediately find out whether or not you’re correctly tracking the ball into the hitting zone, because the ball will disappear from your available field of vision. If you’re not correctly tracking the ball, you’ll be amazed by how fast the I-ON will help you improve, so you can maximize hitting performance.
To begin training, follow these steps:
- Perfect Fit: Make sure the I-ON is adjusted correctly. With your head level and facing forward, have the pitcher hold a ball at eye level from a distance of approximately 10-15 feet (if your head is tilted up, down or to the side you will not be able to align the I-ON correctly). Make sure you can see a single image of the ball while looking through the opening in each lens. If you cannot see a single image, you will need to adjust the I-ON by moving the sliders on the inside of each frame. You may also need to adjust the nosepiece up or down (especially if you are wearing prescription glasses). Adjust the I-ON as needed until the openings in the sliders are aligned so that you only see a single image of the ball. Once you have done this, you are ready to begin working with the I-ON.
- Pre-Training Routine: Without wearing the I-ON and without swinging your bat, stand in the batter’s box and practice watching as the pitcher softly throws to the catcher (less than 21 mph). Watch the ball all the way from the pitcher’s release point to the catcher’s mitt. Repeat this pre-training routine for 15-25 pitches.
- Tracking the Ball: Put on your properly adjusted I-ON and watch the ball all the way into the catcher’s mitt again. Repeat this process until you are comfortable that you are picking up and tracking it correctly while wearing the glasses. Do not move on to any other drills until you are comfortable you can see the ball throughout its flight from the pitcher’s hand into the catcher’s mitt. If you are not successful doing this, you may be trying to track a ball that is moving too fast. Ask the pitcher to slow down or move closer to get the speed at which you can comfortably see the ball throughout its flight. Once you can see the ball throughout its flight, ask the pitcher to move back a few steps and then throw a few more pitches. Once the pitcher is throwing from a distance of at least 12 feet and you can watch the ball through the I-ON throughout its flight, you can move on to the recommended drills provided in the usage manual and instructional DVD.
